Are you (am I? are we?) Furry?
I did not know until Nov 2025 that cat girl =/= furry so hopefully this also explains something for you
Demographics taken from Furscience/IARP
What are the men doing here? (no judgement)
- The nature of online spaces skewing male?
- The way men are ‘allowed’ to dress is much more narrow/constricted
- They way men are ‘allowed’ to act thus follows suit (ha ha)
(The male loneliness epidemic as they say)
(But also, masculinity in general easily feeling threatened, imo)
- Safe, ‘transformative space’ for experimentation
- ‘Costuming worlds form a utopia’
- Get in touch with an “ideal” community > more humane, compassionate, can talk about their traumas
- The mask sets you free!!!
- Can negotiate identity on a (material) layer
on top of the physical body
TLDR: creative, fun, expressive, can be
whatever you want+don’t have to be what
society tells you to be, meet people who are actually nice,
(free to howl at the moon should you so wish to)
Vernacular Creativity

source: toshoneko
- Transmitting membership of the fandom through symbology
- kind of need to be a part of the furry fandom to know what art/style counts as furry art/media? (and everyone inside would still be debating about it)
- understanding context, slang/lingo, cross-references, unspoken rules
Choosing your animal
source, clockwise : freckledcatcreations, komickraze studios,
chaoticreations, kigurumi kagetsu
- Practicality (esp. for fursuiters)
- Aesthetics and originality
- Considering your own fluid personality traits
(it’s due to change, just like your fursona)
-(ape/monkey hating) (kidding, or maybe not)
No Delusion, just Deleuze-ian
(and Guattari but I don’t have a joke for that)

- Highly identified furries co opt the animal into their human identity
- Stigmatised because of performing Body without Organs (BwO)?
- D&G did in fact link BwO and becoming-animal with a lot of “mental illness” (or that society would view it as such)
- J. R. Austin: ‘For highly identified Furries, transformation is at the forefront, in that these real animals can transform their human selves’

my family members and all of my school friends are just regular people. i saw them graduate, get a job, get married, have kids, and just live like a normal human. and i don't want a life like that. i had a few years living like that. i went to work in a company, and my work was drawing as well but i [felt] like a ghost when i got off work...

but being a furry sometimes make me look at things from a different point of view. i notice that what i see and what i think is different from these people...i actually have the ability to live my life without following the regular path, and i really appreciate it...this is a life i want to live. my life was recreated from the furry fandom and that keeps giving me the motivation to do things in the fandom.
